Fibre creations draw buyers
Fibre artist Josephine Gornall is celebrating a successful debut at a national focus for local arts and crafts.
“More than 100 visitors viewed my collection of contemporary fibre and mixed media creations,” Josephine reveals after exhibiting at the three-day Hebden Bridge Open Studios 2018 weekend held from 6 to 8 July in the picturesque West Yorkshire town, now an arts haven.
Offering visitors a chance to view work by both established and new talent, the event embraced no fewer than 83 artists, who opened their studios, homes and hearts to an intrigued public.
“As this was my first year exhibiting, I was keen to display a full range of work,” Josephine explains, “and was surprised at how popular they were. Some works sold straight off the wall and I had a waiting list of eager buyers for my latest creations – masks showing printed photography on a felt background. Visitors really loved them.”
Josephine runs regular workshops for those keen to learn the secrets of fibre art and delivers participatory arts projects for schools and community groups throughout the North West.
Her next public exhibition outing is Todmorden Open Studios, to be held from 7 to 9 September. Learn more on Facebook and Instagram or email hello@todmordenopenstudios.co.uk
